13 bereaved mothers seeking a way to write ourselves to wholeness.

14 children who died. Our children.

14 years since our first weekend retreat together at a house in the Blue Ridge Mountains called

“Breath of Sol”

and we liked the sign near the entrance to the house. We were especially drawn to the name and have often referred to ourselves as “sol sisters.” Coincidentally, there are 14 rays in the sol on the sign, one for each child. (Later the sign was presented as a gift to us and we share ownership as it travels from one home to the next.)

 

15 years together! Celebrating another milestone year in just a few days. At our 10-year mark, we launched a book and celebrated that publication (Farther Along) and our anniversary with a week-long writing retreat in a beautiful chateau in the Loire Valley, France.

5 days in November. This year we will celebrate our anniversary at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico, former home of the late artist, Georgia O’Keeffe.

10 of us will be able to attend this retreat; as always, we will carry in our hearts and minds those who are unable to be there with us.

2 of us will make this a Road Trip of a lifetime and will visit a total of 8 states during the trip traveling

3,978+ miles to get from here to there and back again.

Immeasurable – the number of memories we have accumulated celebrating births/adoptions of children and grandchildren; enduring serious illnesses; mourning the death of beloved family members; acknowledging our achievements and disappointments; embarking on new careers or retirement; spending weekends together in the mountains, at the beach, on the lake, at one of our homes; taking day trips to museums, art shows, parks; meeting for last-minute or impromptu lunch/dinner; entertaining ourselves with raucous board games, animated charades, silly stories; growing closer, loving more deeply, likely to last for

Infinity.
