In Memory of Wes and Andy
3.25.06
You said goodbye to cuddles and coos, to Mother Goose, and “What says moo?”
You said goodbye to match box cars, to glow-in-the dark stars, to under-the-bed horrors
You said goodbye to the Easter Bunny, tooth fairy money, Pooh and his honey
It was up to you to say goodbye
Years wore on as time matured into life
And letting go
You said goodbye to Lego ships, tantrums and fits,
Boy Scout trips
You said goodbye to mom reading books,
To ‘middle-school cooks,’
To little boy looks
You said goodbye to Internet deals, bicycle wheels,
‘Depend on mom’ meals
It was up to you to say goodbye.
Years wore on as time matured into life
And letting go
And then we had to let you go.
For your goodbye, we were not warned.
Time did not give you all of your years
And now our lives are fragile…torn…
Why do we have to say goodbye?
But your deaths are not the end of you—
Your souls can never die.
You do not need time to give you Life.
You live eternal—
We never have to say goodbye.
